Capacity building workshop on macroeconomic modelling of climate change adaptation at the Economic Research Institute in Kazakhstan
From November 10–14, 2025, a 5 days practical training on “Macroeconomic Assessment of Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Measures Using the e3.kz Model" was conducted at the ERI office by GWS consultants Anett Grossmann, Louisa Mergner and Frank Hohmann.
During the training participants learned:
- How to develop an E3 (economy-energy-emissions) model for Kazakhstan? What are the data needs and how to model the relationships between the 3E’s?
- What are the prerequisites for modelling the economy-wide impacts of climate change and adaptation measures?
- How to use scenario analysis to simulate impacts of climate change and adaptation options at national and subnational level?
- How to interpret scenario results to provide evidence-based policy advice for climate adaptation planning?
The event was held within the IKI Global Project "Policy Dialogue and Knowledge Management on Climate Protection Strategies" (DIAPOL-CE), in cooperation with the Kazakh Economic Research Institute (ERI).
A heartful thanks to our Kazakh partners for organizing the event! Alvira Yertayeva, Dana Yermolyonok, Madina Kamasheva, ERI and many others.
