The German Sport Satellite Account
Methodological basis and results for the period 2010 to 2019
The recently published GWS Research Report 2024/6 presents selected key figures on the economic importance of sport in Germany for the reporting period 2010 to 2019. The results are part of the national Sport Satellite Account (SSK), which we compile together with 2HMforum GmbH which we compile together with Federal Institute for Sports Science (BISp) as part of regular monitoring of the SSK. The Sports Satellite Account is a robust economic statistics calculation tool that visualises the various sport-related transactions in the national accounts. The SSK measures the direct contribution of sport to income and employment in Germany. In 2019, sport accounted for 2.3% of gross domestic product with over 80 billion euros. In addition, 2.7% of total employment was directly attributable to sport.
