Our figure of the month 04/2016: Industry create jobs

01.04.2016

In average, each directly employed person in the industry sector produces 1.2 jobs in other sectors of the economy. This is the result of an analysis of the GWS mbH that is based on the latest input output table of Germany. It confirms the job dependency of many branches on the industry.

The analysis shows, that despite of the comparable low impact of the industry sector on the economy with respect to its share in value added and employment, it has a high indirect impact. This can be explained by developments like concentration on core competency, the purchase of product-supporting services or by the high productivity in the industry sectors.

The analysis confirms, that the importance of a branch can be fully encountered if the analysis is based on structural information provided by input output tables.
